CANCELLED 44 DEEMED TO BE UNIVERSITIES.

The Public information Officer, Department of higher education, Ministry of human resource development, Government of India, Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi.- 110001.

I am a final year student of prist university in Tamilnadu. The Govt of India has been cancelled the status of 44 Deemed to be universities across all over the country.

(The Govt said that, “A task force was constituted with the same members as that of the review committee . The Task force has recommended a seven point action plan ensure that students studying in these institutions are not put to any unavoidable inconvenience”.)

  1. In Tamil nadu, Which university we students are going receive degree from?
  2. How the old students can change their degree certificate issued in the name of cancelled universities?
  3. What are the seven point action plan which is recommended by the task force?
  4. When will the Government undertake the cancelled universities? Please indicate the exact period.

1.The matter has been stayed by SC.
      2. Though the HRD ministry and the Panel of Expert officials have submitted their report in Nov 2011 the SC is yet to give its verdict on the matter.

  4. nightwatch - RTI Anonymous Team Member says:

This is the position of the HRD Ministry for information of the applicant:
At present, there are 129 Deemed to be Universities in the country. The Review Committee constituted by the Central Government to review the functioning of the existing Deemed to be Universities placed 44 Deemed to be Universities in category-III which, ‘neither on past performance nor on the promise for future, had the attributes, to retain their status as Deemed-to-be-Universities’. The matter is presently sub-judice as the Hon’ble Supreme Court has directed the Government to maintain status-quo vis-à-vis the 44 institutions found unfit to continue as institutions Deemed to be Universities. A Task Force was constituted with the same members as that of the Review Committee. The Task Force has recommended a seven point action plan to ensure that students studying in these institutions are not put to any unavoidable inconvenience.

  5. Malathy Dev says:

Good searching Mr Nightwatch, but the student simply wants to know from where he can change his degree, and if and when will the government take over his specific institute. Even if matter subjudice, Ministry would have specific policy for affected students who may not affected as the case drags on. Either we get a specific response for the student from Ministry sources or we let the RTI go as an attempt to get clarity for him.

    • Anand Sharma says:

I seriously think, this is not something we should spend time, filing RTI’s, based on the comments by Mr. Nightwatch.

We have not recieved one single reply back from the original requestor here.

My request to Mr Dev is , there are many more RTI applications, that are more effective. and we can spend our time there..
I feel that after filing an RTI, we will get a response, referring to the SC judgegment. Mr. Dev : If you still want to file an RTI, then please go ahead. My only intention is that you do not spend unnecessary time and money on something like this

If you decide not to file, please let me know .. and I will move it the NonANon RTI or Non RTI Category (my preference is the latter)

  6. nightwatch - RTI Anonymous Team Member says:

What the Student has to do will be told by the Ministry as per the 7-point plan of the committee, which at present is the property of the SC. The SC in its judgement might add or delete to the recommendation of the committee which had been created on its orders. Therefore the Ministry will decide course of action after the SC judgement. As of now it is status quo. But as always file the RTI.
