Why are women exempted from wearing helmets in Chandigarh.

Why are women two-wheeler drivers exemped from wearing helmets in the Union territory of Chandigarh?

As they are also equally vulnerable to accidents why are they exempted?

If women with religious headgear ( Sikh turban) are exempted then why others who do not wear the same are exempted?

For a Sikh gentleman not a wearing turban, it is mandatory to wear a helmet.

Question: Are all Sikh women not wearing turban and all non-Sikh women exempted from wearing helmets in Chandigarh?

The Supreme Court ruling only applies to Sikh Women, and that too I suppose wearing a religious headgear (Turban).

Mr. Aimad I fail to understand what is the indecency in the question when it’s a question of life and death. I am a constant witness to several head injuries in the hospital, PGI, where I work. A sizable no. are female students.

The ‘interpretation’ of the Supreme Court ruling lead to a blanket ban to all women. Agreed that Sikh women drivers should be exempted, what on heavens lead to a blanket exemption. Now since it’s a Supreme Court Ruling, and rightly interpreted as you say, can you suggest a way to save the poor heads of 2 wheeler women accident victim?

Along the line a grave anomaly creeped which led to such a blanket exemption. Can you suggest a better way of re framing the letter?

Based on all the comments above, I am moving this to a non-RTI category.
If the requestor feels it should still be filed, then I urge him to file it himself, based on the examples in the Filed RTI Category, since this definitely does not have any kind of threat perception

  7. Bally says:

Mr. Anand you are right in shifting the Category. The approach to solve the anomaly may not be RTI but PIL. WIll have to consult some legal experts.
