Dredging(Destruction of mangroves) at Diva-Kopar creek near Mumbai
For the past six months,dredging has been going on at the above mentioned creek situated at Thane district.The surrounding area has already been ravaged by floods in the past during the famous Mumbai downpour during July’06.
So,this activity will affect heavily the city of Dombivli with a population of about 23 lakh.The mangroves and wetlands in the area has been destroyed beyond imagination.
Sadly,this activity has been going on near the railway tracks (Mumbai suburban railways-central railway).Lakhs of people use railways.Even then this activity has been going on rampantly.It has not been even mentioned in the media.
So,I request you to please look into the matter as I am sure there is some nexus with builders and politicians and only a powerful organisation as yours can deal with the matter effectively.

From an RTI Act 2005, what kind of document can we ask for this ?

This is a very important matter and we need to look into whether this destruction is being done legally.

Speed post above mentioned issue to CM OFFICE with copy to MOEF. Write from navi mumbai residents and take signatures of few if possible else send alone. Keep photocopies and postal reciept. Then we can follow up the issue. Mumbai has already lost most of its mangrove cover. Please do this asap and revert back. It is an important issue
plz tell me the juridiction of the area where such activities are going on i.e railways or the state govt land. after that it will be easy for the decision what to file.

it is the collectors jurisdiction the Hounourable High Court has said that.
the mangroves have been already systematically destroyed .
this destruction has been going on since at least 2008 .
I had pictures since 2oo9 , but my hard disk got lost and now i have some few pics and videos . Im searching and once I collect all the pics I will share it with u guys lets do it.
the side opposite to the tracks have also been converted into a dumping ground and it is clearly illegal . the smoke from the dumps pollute the commuters on the trains passing by.
the dump is also on the mangroves only!
a call to the thane police controll room on 02225443535, or 02225442121 ,or 02225442828 when ever there is a big dredging going on will help nail them for ever .
the plan is to call on these control numbers and ask them to come in full force . while we keep shooting from the tracks and nearby and record how many people have been caught and who all have been caught . v will have pics and videos of them in the act of dredging also before we call the controll room .
then v put various complaint letters and finally an RTI !
they have churned the mud and uprooted the mangroves at the spots that u can see now this is to starve the mangrooves of their food and nutrition ! the mangrooves eat when it is high tide if the tides are not allowed to reach the mangrooves they would die of starvation!!
during moonsoon last year there were earth movers inside these mangrooves they had churned the mud and formed bund like structures which killed the mangroves and made sure none returned(reborn).
