On what basis the RTOs in various states have decided frequency for the vehicle pollution check?

In different states the the RTOs have different rules for duration in which pollution check needs to be done.

For example in Delhi it is every 3 months. In some states it is every 6 months.

Is this duration logical? Is it done based on some statistical analysis?

Can it not be :

vehicles less than 3 years : every year.

vehicles older than than 3 years less than 6 years : every 9 months.

vehicles older than 6  years : every 6 months

Or, may be all commercial vehicles, Autos every 6 months etc.

The present 3 months/6 months for all vehicles is just to fill the pocket of the pollution checking kiosks !!

And, also to provide a tool for the police for an easy option to harass or demand bribe.

    Hi,

There are different rules and norms decided by different states. At center level, there is “Central Pollution Control Board”, you can give your suggestions to respective central/state boards.

    Thanks
