Deaths in Sushruta Trauma Centre in North Delhi
This is in reference to recent death of 5 patients in ICU of Sushrut trauma centre run by Govt of Delhi in North Delhi. It has been reported that oxygen supply failed in ICU of hospital for 30 minutes on 4th Dec 2012 and it caused death of 5 patients admitted there. Among these 5, 4 of them died for lack of oxygen immediately and another one died a day later. This is a glaring case of medical negligence in a government hospital. I want to use RTI to find out following information regarding this incident:
1. It has been reported that such incidents had happened few times earlier also. Please provide date, time and duration of oxygen supply failure and what corrective action was taken at those instances.
2. How many critical care doctors and nurses were present in ICU at time of incident of 4th Dec? Why were these medical personnel not able to provide backup oxygen or use ambu-bag to save the patients? Please name all the medical staff who was supposed to be on duty at the time?
3. How many back up oxygen cylinders were present in ICU and why they were not used when supply failed?
4. Please provide data about oxygen cylinders and ambu-bags purchased for this hospital in last one year for ICU and their usage.
