Laparoscopic hysterectomy

I wish to get data on the total number of laparoscopic hysterectomy operations done in India in public and private hospitals

during the years 2008, 2009 and 2010

(a) from the Medical Council of India   and  (b)from  the Health Ministry of the Cental Government   and

(c) the said figures for Maharashtra in particular  and

(d)also the data on the number of medical negligence(?) complications like bowel perforation in particular as a consequence of laparoscopic hysterectomy  leading to/ necessitating  colostomy, tracheostomy, hernia and other further further operations, thus  putting the life of woman in perpetual physical and neurological disabilities requiring a permanent attendant etc. and

(e) the reasons why such operations are still allowed to be done  by doctors who blatantly promise faster recovery with only three small scars,   when the usual open hysterecomy is cheaper and more safe.

Kindly keep me posted about the progress of this inquiry as it is urgently required for Consumer Court complaint .

Reason  for these queries:My friend’s wife , now aged about 50,  underwent such an operation  in a private hospital in Mumbai in May,2009, and had to be in ICU,Ventilator etc. for more than two months, had to be further operated  on for colostomy , tracheostomy, again colostomy(Feb.2010)and hernia (March 2011) and still suffering from physical and neurological  complications requiring full-time attendant etc.hospital bills have come to more than Rs.8-lakhs, much beyond the capacity of the patient’s family.

1.Are you aware of the rule or provision under which this data is required to be maintained by the concerned institutions otherwise, the reply you will get to your RTI application will be “this data is not maintained/available with this office”.Specially with reference to private hospitals.
    2. The chances of getting data on cases of medical negligence is brighter.
    3. Your point (e) does constitute ‘information’ as defined under the RTIA and again will get no response.

Please try with the Medical Council of India.Even data of public hospitals will be helpful.Let us get data on medical negligence complications at least, arising out of laparoscopic hysterectomy.Ramnarain 06.11.2011.
